CONSTITUTIONS - 2025/26

The West Sussex Football League constitutions have been confirmed for 2025/26 season.

83 sides line-up across eight Divisions including regional splits, with an eleven-team Premier Division at the summit - and our congratulations to Rudgwick who have been promoted to the Southern Combination League Division Two.

New sides for the coming season include Bognor Rovers, Climping Rangers, Emsworth Town and Southbourne - while there is a return for previous Premier Division champions, Lavant, placed into Division One (South), Midhurst & Easebourne Reserves and Rustington Reserves - both in Division Two (South).

The Walter Rossiter Trophy curtain raiser will take place at Arundel on August 27 between Watersfield and Del United (7.30pm), with the League campaign up-and-running on Saturday, August 30.

FA COST OF LIVING RESOURCE HUB

England Football has launched a new resources hub for clubs, to further support grassroots clubs and organisations around the country, in recognising the impact that the current cost of living crisis is having on our national game.

Its aim is to inform and direct participants, clubs and leagues to useful resources, funding tips, facilities grants and other opportunities to support the game.

PLAY SAFE WEEKEND - SEPT 30

English football is set to unite again on the weekend of September 30 to promote ' Play Safe ' – a countrywide campaign to focus attention of the vital importance of safeguarding in our national game.

Led by The Football Association, the Play Safe campaign is endorsed by the NSPCC and will be supported this weekend across every level of English football, including the Premier League, EFL, Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship, and across the grassroots game.

This season we are asking EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE – clubs and leagues at every level of the game, (and individuals if they wish) – to tell us what they are planning to do to make a difference over the Play Safe weekend and to share this via an online Play Safe Pledge.

The FA’s Survivor Support and Safeguarding Advisory Group (FASSSAG) continues to support Play Safe: “Creating safe environments in every football setting is a collective responsibility. It’s really important that every single person in football – no matter if they’re actively involved or on the sidelines – understands that they have an ongoing role to play. Knowing how to act on any concerns is vital and Play Safe is a key way to raise awareness so that everyone is vigilant and knows what to do if they become aware of any inappropriate behaviour.”

This year’s Play Safe weekend focuses on the safeguarding role EVERYONE has to play – coach, player, parent/carer, spectator or volunteer – to keep children and young people safe, no matter what the football setting. EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, EVERYTIME is encouraged to WATCH, LISTEN, TALK and ACT if they have any safeguarding concerns.

These messages are reflected in the visuals on this page, which are examples of the various digital and print resources being distributed to every County FA, league and club in England. Captain’s armbands will be worn at various levels of the game over the weekend. Head coaches/managers are also being asked to wear Play Safe pin badges to show their support.

It’s all part of football in England uniting to create an ever-safer culture across the game at every level.

BARNS GREEN NET WALTER ROSSITER TROPHY

Barns Green collected the Walter Rossiter Trophy on Wednesday evening with 2-0 victory over Barnham Trojans at Mill Road.

The Walter Rossiter Trophy is the traditional season curtain raiser, played out between the Premier Division champions (Barns Green) and the Malcolm Simmonds Cup winners (Barnham Trojans).

FA MISCONDUCT FOR GRASSROOTS

From the start of the 2023/24 season, The FA will introduce point deductions for teams across the grassroots game if their players or coaches commit repeated offences of serious misconduct, making clear to clubs that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

Point deductions will apply to clubs at Step 7 and below of the men’s game, and clubs across Tier 3 and below in the women’s pyramid, which commit cumulative incidents of serious misconduct. This could include acts of discrimination and assault or attempted assault, and physical contact or attempted physical contact against a match official.

Deductions will range from 3 to 12 points depending on the amount and severity of offences committed within a 12-month period.

The FA has launched an initiative to encourage clubs to 'Stay Accredited' via England Football - and we'd like to echo this message to our West Sussex League members.

England Football Accreditation is the new framework for Club and League accreditation and replaces FA Charter Standard.

England Football Accreditation helps clubs and leagues create the experiences and environments where players, coaches, officials, referees, volunteers and spectators can thrive.

Club accreditation is available to access via the FA's Club Portal - clubs.thefa.com , with the renewal period open now until April 30, 2023.

You club's dashboard keeps everything in one place. Within it, you can:

* Check the status of coaches qualifications

* Make sure DBS checks are up-to-date

* Upload and accept your club policies

SUSSEX INTERMEDIATE CUP DRAW

The Sussex Intermediate Cup - in memory of Matt Grimstone and Jacob Schilt - reaches its third round stage with a number of weather-delayed ties to be resolved in the first week of February.

Barns Green and Barnham Trojans fly the flag for the WSFL - Green travel to SCFL Division Two side, Rustington on February 4, while Barnham Trojans play out their second round tie at Rotherfield, with the winners visiting Bosham in the third round.
